Shakespeare Play Reader

You can download the Play Reader for free, and use it use it to read all or part of a play - the navigation is designed for quick location of individual Acts and Scenes. The reader operates on versions of the plays which have been marked up in XML by Jon Bosak.

The Play Reader illustrates HTML Application (HTAs), and the versatility of stylesheets. Each play is a single XML file around 200K-250K in size. The various views, and the navigation, are all generated by stylesheets. The "Who said it?" feature lets you look up all occurrences of a word or phrase - the use of stylesheets to perform complex selection, presentation and hyperlinking will amaze you. You can also view the XML source for a selected scene.

This HTML Application is for Windows 2000 / Windows XP only. Two sample plays are included in our download, and you can obtain the full set of 37 plays marked up in XML separately.
